Shave at 8, stubble by 6. The razor lives in your bag, and you reconsider the sleeveless top at the door. When hair grows back thick and fast, shaving buys you hours and waxing buys you weeks, and both put you right back where you started.
Razors and wax cut the hair off at the surface. They never touch the root, and the root decides how fast it comes back.

IPL sends a pulse of light down the hair to the pigment at the root and warms it, interrupting the growth cycle. Regrowth comes back finer and slower: long-lasting hair reduction that works at the root instead of the surface. Coarse, dark hair carries plenty of pigment, which is exactly what the light targets.
It isn’t overnight, and anyone who says otherwise is selling you something. One session a week, on this arc:
Skin stays shave-smooth between sessions. No visible change in regrowth yet, because the light is still reaching roots in their growth phase.
Regrowth starts coming back finer, softer, and patchier. The five-o’clock shadow arrives later and later. Keep to one session a week.
Most people see clearly reduced regrowth and switch to a top-up session every few weeks. Results vary with hair color and skin tone.
Coarse hair needs stronger light. Stronger light needs the cold plate.
Thick hair responds best at higher intensities, and heat is the reason people quit IPL before it pays off. The Pearl 01’s ice-cooling contact plate chills the flash window before the light ever reaches your skin, so every pulse lands on cooled skin and you feel a brief warmth and little else.

IPL targets the pigment in your hair, so it works best when your hair is darker than the surrounding skin. With thick, dark regrowth that is usually the case, and it makes you the person this device was built for.
