IPL works by targeting the melanin (pigment) in hair. Pick a skin tone and a hair color to see whether the Pearl 01 is a good fit for you.
It comes down to pigment.
The flash is absorbed by the melanin in the hair and carried down the shaft to the root. Darker hair carries more of it, so more of the light arrives where it does something.
The hair has to be darker than the skin around it. When skin carries as much pigment as the hair, it absorbs the light too, which is why the deepest tones sit outside the safe range.
Blonde, red, grey and white hair carry too little pigment for the flash to find, whatever the device. No IPL brand solves this one.
Always wear the included eye protection. Patch test a small area and wait 24 hours before your first full session. Not for use on tattoos, dark moles, or recently sun-exposed skin.
