There is no level you get assigned. Hold the highest setting that stays comfortable for the whole session and climb when that gets easy. Comfort is the whole instruction, and it matters most in week three, which is when people quit.

Is it safe on the bikini line and face?+
The bikini line is fine. Start at a low energy level and work up over sessions; the cooling plate earns its keep most in exactly this kind of area.
On the face, stay on the upper lip, chin and jaw, and keep well clear of the eye socket and brow. Never flash above the cheekbone, whichever way the glasses are sitting. Use a lower level than you would on a leg.
Never use it on genitals or nipples.
Do I shave before or not?+
Yes. Shave the whole area with the included razor and let the skin dry.
Hair longer than about 2 mm burns at the surface instead of absorbing the light. You will smell it, and the flash does less. Shave only; do not wax, pluck or epilate before a session, because the flash needs the hair root still in place.
What are the risks?+
Nothing in the Pearl 01 reads your skin or caps the flash for you. You choose the energy level, and the level you choose is the level it fires at, so the judgement is yours, and these are the instructions that go with it.
Wear the included glasses every session. Skip tattoos, dark moles and recently sun-exposed skin.
Patch test one spot at level 1 and leave it 24 hours before your first full pass. Redness that settles within a few hours is normal. What you are looking for the next day is skin that is still red, sore, blistered, or darker than the skin around it. If you see any of that, drop a level, wait a few more days, and test again before you treat a whole area.
What does a session actually take?+
About ten minutes for a full body pass, plus a few minutes to shave first. The lamp fires every half second and keeps firing as you move, so you are not pressing a button per flash.
Underarms alone take under a minute. Most people do it in the bathroom after a shower and stop thinking about it.
Does it run on a battery?+
No. The Pearl 01 stays plugged in while you use it. The adapter in the box runs on 100–240V, so it works on any outlet worldwide with a plug adapter.
